چکیده

A low-cost, high-performance -band Gunn diode oscillator for educational and research purposes has been developed. The cavities have been manufactured on a standard WR90 rectangular waveguide with UBR100 flange in order to make it compatible with the waveguide circuitry usually available in a basic microwave laboratory. The capability of sweeping the whole band at constant output power and low phase noise, as well as the low cost of its components, make this device suitable for users at any level. As an example of its many educational applications, a multiple frequency continuous-wave (MFCW) radar has been developed, and the results of the laboratory implementation are shown.

A Unique Approach to Freqeucny-modulated Continuous-wave Radar Design

Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave (FMCW) Radar has traditionally been used in short range applications. Conventional FMCW radar requires the use of expensive microwave mixers and low noise amplifiers. A uniquely inexpensive solution was created, using inexpensive Gunn oscillator based microwave transceiver modules that consist of 3 diodes inside of a resonant cavity. However these transceiver...

A Ku-Band CMOS FMCW Radar Transceiver for Snowpack Remote Sensing

This paper presents a Ku-band (14–16 GHz) CMOS frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar transceiver developed to measure dry-snow depth for water management purposes and to aid in retrieval of snow water equivalent. An on-chip direct digital frequency synthesizer and digital-toanalog converter digitally generates a chirping waveform which then drives a ring oscillator-based Ku-Band phas...

On the Coherent Phase Noise of Millimeter - Wave Doppler Radar

The phase noise is a very important index to wireless system, especially in millimeter-wave continuous wave radar systems. The phase noise of the signal, which is firstly leaked from transmitter and then mixed to intermediate frequency band by the local oscillator (Tx-IF), will worsen the sensitivity of superheterodyne radar system used for Doppler velocity detection. In this paper, the coheren...

Some Numerical and Experimental Observa- Tions on the Growth of Oscillations in an X-band Gunn Oscillator

The dynamics of the onset of oscillations in a wave guide cavity based Gunn Oscillator (GO) has been critically examined through numerical simulations and experimental studies. The transition of the GO from a non-oscillatory to an oscillatory state and the same in the reverse direction occurs at different critical values of the dc bias voltage applied to the GO. In presence of a weak RF field i...

Velocity Error Analysis of a K-band Dual Mode Traffic Radar

This paper is addressed to a design of K-band dual mode radar used in traffic information collection. The radar can work in both Frequency Modulate Continual Wave (FMCW) mode and Continual Wave (CW) mode. As VCO is seldom used as the oscillator in CW radar for velocity measurement, this paper studied the effect of phase noise and detecting distance on velocity error in CW mode in VCO design. Th...
